MARRIAGE LICENSE APPLICATION
You must be at least 18 years of age and not be a party to another civil union, domestic partnership or marriage, to be married in the State of New Jersey.

Where to apply:
If you are applying for a marriage license and are a resident of New Jersey, the license may be obtained from the Registrar of Vital Statistics in the municipality in which either applicant resides.  If neither applicant is a resident of New Jersey, the application would be submitted in the municipality where the ceremony will be performed and will only be valid in that issuing municipality.  The application is filed together with the applicants as well as one (1) witness over the age of 18. The license fee is $28.00. The Borough of Far Hills only accepts cash or check.  It is recommended to make an appointment to ensure that the Registrar or Deputy Registrar are available to accept your application.

Do not sign the Marriage License Application form before coming to the Borough of Far Hills, as each applicant must sign, under oath, in the presence of the issuing authority.

Required documents when applying for a marriage license:

  • Proof of identity by presenting your driver’s license, passport or state/federal I.D.
  • Proof of residency by one applicant, if a NJ resident

  • The $28.00 application fee, check or cash only

* Your social security number is required by law for US citizens and will be kept confidential.
Any documents in a foreign language must be accompanied by a certified English translation.

After you apply:
There is a 72-hour waiting period before the license can be issued. The waiting period begins when the application is filed with the Local Registrar.

IMPORTANT: Please do not rely on the mailing address to indicate the municipality in which the ceremony is to be performed. As a convenience, below are a few wedding venues that have a Far Hills mailing address but are actually located in another municipality.

  • Bamboo Brook Park - Chester Township
  • Hamilton Farms - Bedminster Township
  • Natirar - Borough of Peapack and Gladstone
  • Willowwood Arboretum - Chester Township
