Message from Janis Vallone, Chair, Recreation Committee

I am very pleased to be speaking with our residents, Mayor and Council and Councilman Welsh who I will be working and coordinating with regarding upcoming plans for the future of the J. Malcolm Belcher Fairgrounds. I look forward to hearing his ideas and bringing the committee’s ideas and suggestions to him and working together to bring these projects to fruition.

In researching Far Hills history for our recent 100th Anniversary Celebration, I found that our fairgrounds have always been an integral part of life in the Borough, and it continues to be a relevant part of life today. It is a common sight to see residents walking the track, some with their dogs, people fishing in the North Branch of the Raritan River, children playing in the tot lot and basketball, cricket and baseball games going on. Additionally, our annual Memorial Day Parade usually concludes with a picnic on the fairgrounds for all to enjoy.

The goal of the Recreation Committee is to enhance the use of our fairgrounds for all our residents as well as the restoration and improvement of its structures. Some of the ideas would be to have a pickleball court, and workout stations along the walking track, enhance the playground area and basketball courts, host a Halloween parade, have pop up exercise classes provided by our local yoga and exercise businesses as well as other community suggested events.

I welcome volunteers to join me on the Recreation Committee and be a part of the renaissance of our fairgrounds. Please feel free to contact me at JNANIE90@MSN.COM or 973.879.1503 if you would like to volunteer or have any ideas or suggestions.

Thank you,
Janis Vallone
